Bentonite powder is a cost-effective natural clay mineral powder mainly composed of montmorillonite. It also isolates corrosive underground water to protect drilling pipelines from erosion. It acts as a key thickening and anti-settling agent in water-based and oil-based coating industries. Ordinary paint raw materials are easy to layer, precipitate and flow down after long-term storage or construction. Adding a proper amount of modified bentonite powder can increase paint viscosity evenly, stop pigment sinking at the bottom of paint barrels, and improve paint storage stability. During spraying and brushing construction, it enhances paint leveling performance, makes the coating surface flat and smooth without sagging marks. For exterior wall paint, anti-corrosion metal paint and furniture paint, bentonite improves paint film compactness, boosts weather resistance and ultraviolet resistance, and extends the service life of painted surfaces. It mixes well with titanium dioxide and color pigments, will not change original paint hue, and replaces expensive synthetic thickeners to lower coating production cost greatly.
Foundry and metallurgy industry uses bentonite powder as high-efficiency bonding sand binder. Mixed with silica sand, it can bond scattered sand particles into integrated casting sand molds. The molded sand has strong toughness, high temperature resistance and easy demolding performance during molten metal pouring. It will not crack or collapse under high temperature of molten iron, aluminum and copper liquid. After cooling, the casting sand can be broken and recycled easily, reducing casting waste and workshop cleaning difficulty. This natural binder has no harmful gas emission after high-temperature burning, protecting workshop working environment. It is widely used for auto parts casting, hardware part casting and mechanical component processing, improving casting finished product smoothness and reducing defective rate.
Food-grade and feed-grade bentonite powder has safe application in animal husbandry and grain processing. Up-to-standard purified bentonite is a legal feed additive for poultry, livestock and aquaculture breeding. It can adsorb harmful bacteria, mycotoxin and excess intestinal grease in animal stomach, improve animal digestion ability and reduce livestock disease rate. Meanwhile, it works as feed granulation binder to make feed particles firm, not easy to break during packaging and transportation. In grain and edible oil processing, it adsorbs pigment, impurity and peculiar smell in crude oil, helping refine clear edible oil without chemical residue. In cosmetic and skincare products, ultra-fine modified bentonite acts as oil-absorbing filler for facial mask, cleansing mud and loose powder, absorbing skin surface grease gently without skin irritation. In civil engineering, it is made into waterproof clay liner for landfill, pond seepage prevention and basement water insulation, thanks to its compact waterproof layer after water swelling.
