Industrial Grade Diatomaceous Earth: Fluid Loss Reducer for Oil Drilling
Drilling-grade diatomaceous earth is a natural siliceous mineral with a soft, porous structure, formed by diatom fossils through sedimentation. Its core component is silicon dioxide (≥75%), with alumina (6%-8%) and calcium oxide (1%-2%), giving it excellent water absorption and suspension properties—key for oil drilling applications.
Its honeycomb porous structure (porosity 82%-88%, specific surface area 20-45 m²/g) enables it to absorb 8-12 times its weight in water, acting as a fluid loss reducer in drilling mud to prevent mud loss into formation pores. It also improves mud suspension, preventing drill cuttings from settling, and enhances mud lubricity to reduce drill bit wear. Chemically stable, acid-resistant, and high-temperature resistant (up to 120℃), it adapts to most drilling environments (onshore/offshore wells).
